About ABU Garcia
The ABU Garcia company dates back to 1921. ABU actually stands for AB Urfabriken, which is the name of the company founded by Carl August Borgstrom in Svangsta, Sweden. At that time, the company made mostly pocket watches, taxi metres and telephone timers, but twenty years later, in 1941, the first ABU fishing reel was introduced.
From then on, the company focused on making different lines of fishing reels like the ABU Revo, ABU Ambassadeur and ABUMatic and ABU Cardinal, which are still being continued today. All previous models can be found in the ABU museum in Sweden.
In 1984, the company combined with one of its US company distributors, changing its name from ABU to ABU Garcia while still retaining the quality of its products.
